The emblem of The School of Foreign Languages and Cultures:
By combining several English letters with the image of butterfly, bird and book, the emblem tries to, in an artistic manner, represent the guiding principle as well as the nature of the school: “flying” and “integrating”.
The emblem takes the image of a book-like butterfly, with the image of English letter “F” and “C” on the left, the initial letters of “Foreign” and “Culture” respectively, and the image of English letter “L” on the right, the initial letter of the word “Foreign”.
Butterflies are experts on nectar sampling and pollen spreading which makes it possible the blossoming of the flowers. It is with the help of the “butterfly” that human being are nurtured by quality “intellectual food”. It is with the help of the “butterfly” that a platform of east-west cultural exchange and communication has been established. Serving as a bridge in this aspect, The School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, like the “butterfly”, regards it its ultimate goal to push forward the mutual understanding and communication among different cultures and languages.
The emblem also looks somewhat like a bird, flying high and singing joyfully, a blessing for the bright future of this school which aims at cultivating students with high language proficiency.
The emblem can also be interpreted as an open book. In traditional Chinese culture, “book” is often related to the concept of the integration of man and writing and the moral teaching of writing. “Book”, therefore, is a symbol of culture and the well-educated. It also helps to interpret the feature and function of our school which is people-oriented and which upholds the principle that the service goes first.
The ground color of this emblem is green, a color for peace, vitality and prosperity. It is also a color standing for elegance, polishness as well as gentility, which is characteristic of The School of Foreign Languages and Cultures.
As of 2017, the School has seen the graduation of undergraduates of different classes of 15 years. The graduates’ degree awarding rate ranks among the top of theuniversity, the employment rate is maintained at more than 95% every year, and the employment contract signing rate is maintained at between 85% and 95%. In the past 10 years, every yearabout 50 graduatesfrom the School were enrolled by the graduate schoolsof various universities, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Zhongshan University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Communication University of China, and China Foreign Affairs University. In addition, every year there are more than 10 students going to the U.S. the U.K., Australia orother countries for further study.Students already employed are workingin China Radio International, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Organizing Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, State Grid, China Mobile, China Telecom, KPMG, Deloitte, HSBC, ICBC, Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank, China Everbright Bank, China CITIC Bank, Lenovo Group, CAAC, Hainan Airlines, Shell and other famous companies at home and abroad.
